Road to vehicle communication, for a fast and safe journey!
Gouda/Leidschendam, 22 March 2010

Cooperative Systems ensure that road operators and road users are continuously and symmetrically informed on the situation on the road. The goal is a faster and safer journey. This may seem utopian, but two Dutch technology firms introduced this technology and have created a new reality on the road

Cooperative Systems create a symbiosis between car and road operator. The driver is informed from the heart of the traffic management systems on traffic jams, accidents, road works, availability of auxiliary lanes, slippery roads, dynamic speed limits, speed advices and even vehicle speed adaptation. This information is no longer broadcasted on the roadside only, but is tailored to the individual road user needs and presented in the vehicle. From now on traffic management is able to take the planned routes of individual drivers into account. This allows the driver to timely re-plan or reroute and in doing so it will facilitate traffic flow, traffic safety and reduce environmental pollution. Road operators will benefit even more: The vehicles collect data and use the same technology to inform the road operator real-time on the road situation, provide information on e.g. road temperature and the presence of rain or fog at a specific road location. If a breakdown occurs or an accident happens, it will be tracked immediately by the emergency services. True symbiosis. There is also a business case: In due time cooperative systems will save road operators the significant costs of roadside signaling systems. This reality starts now.

The opportunities and challenges of this operational technology are presented during the largest traffic fair in Europe, from 23-26 of March 2010 at the Amsterdam RAI.

Cooperative Spirits

The main challenge is to make the technology available to all vehicles and all road operators. Cooperative Spirits is about the concerted interaction of traffic systems. This type of system needs the cooperation between involved parties. Two leading Dutch companies, Technolution and ARS T&TT have been working for years on Cooperative Systems and have joined forces to present their results during Intertraffic. A joint presentation will show in what way this cooperation and the cooperative systems are taking shape.

Cooperative Spirits is a new initiative that is intended to become a match making platform for high-end solution providers in the market of cooperative systems and to standardize solutions. The ultimate goal of Cooperative Spirits is to unlock the international market and to introduce an international standard that brings road managers and the automotive industry the confidence required for investments in this new technology.

Invitation for a demo drive

The cooperative systems shall be demonstrated during the Intertraffic fair. Are you interested to experience this technology at first hand? Join us at Intertraffic at the Amsterdam RAI on 23-26 March 2010. Signing up in advance for a demonstration ride can be done via info@technolution.eu or info@ars.nl. The admission of the fair is free if you sign up in advance at www.amsterdam.intertraffic.com. The demonstration vehicle will depart from location D in front of the RAI.
